Cascades Casino Delta Construction Underway

cascades casinoConstruction is underway on Gateways Casino and Entertainments’ new entertainment centre in Delta, British Columbia. The Cascades Casino Delta received final authorisation in the final quarter of last year.

The project is forecast to cost $70 million, and the planned opening is set for early 2020.

British Columbia’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure gave final approval for the Delta Casino in November 2018. Approval was granted only after extensive community engagement events were completed, and all feedback was considered.

The final design of the new entertainment hub incorporates the public’s feedback, and is part of a British Columbia upliftment initiative aimed at boosting the economy and longer-term growth. Part of the community’s feedback was that the casino be family-friendly, with activities other than gambling for visitors to enjoy.  Gateway Casino and Entertainment has included several facilities to meet this criterion.

An All Round Entertainment Experience

The new casino will feature 500 slots machines, 24 table games and the company’s flagship eateries. Visitors who are not there to gamble will be able to enjoy fine cuisine or a friendly meal at these establishments. Choices include the Match Eatery and Public House, a pub style eatery perfect for events and celebrations, The Buffet, which will showcase an ever-changing menu of international cuisine, and Atlas Steak + Fish, an inventive American Steakhouse.

In addition, the plans include live entertainment areas with regular shows and a hotel with 124 rooms and a conference facility. The company’s planners believe that the entertainment centre will cater to the needs of all residents and visitors alike.

Money Laundering a Concern

The development of the casino has caused some unease, as there is speculation that it may attract criminal activities, such as money laundering, which is rife in nearby Richmond. Richmond’s River Rock Casino is considered a money-laundering hub, and concerns that the new casino may attract the same to Delta have been voiced.

To address the concerns and potential problem, making the casino a cashless venue is being considered. Possibilities and ideas to make the Cascades Delta cashless are under review, although nothing has been finalised.

Excited punters may have to wait until the opening to find out.
